Serving with other LCM members has been a rewarding experience. Working side by side it is easy to make friends, and it is amazing how much we can do when we all work together.”

FAQ

What are the service times?

Our regular services are on Sunday mornings.

10:00 am | Word and Sacrament
Following service | Sunday School
Nursery available during Sunday Worship and Sunday School

What is the dress code for the average service?

On a given Sunday morning you will find some people wearing blue jeans or shorts (in the summer) and others wearing dresses and suits and ties. In general people wear business casual clothing, but all are welcome.

What time is Sunday School?

Sunday School for all ages begins after the morning service. Morning service starts at 10:00 am and last for about an hour.

Are there contemporary services?

Both services are traditional, with a twist. While neither is strictly contemporary our music runs the gamut from ancient to traditional to modern. Our amazingly gifted musician allows us to enjoy a wide variety of musical styles each week in worship.

Do you have a band?

Nope. We do not have a band or a praise team. We do however have a robust music program. Throughout the year our youth and adult choirs regularly sing. We also host a wide variety of musical guests, some instrumentalists and some singers who add to our worship life.

Is there a better service for small children?

The best worship service for children has more to do with your family and your child’s schedule than anything else. At the 11:15 am service we do offer “Kid’s Church.” Right before the sermon younger children have the option to leave worship and have time to learn about the lessons of the day in an age appropriate way.

How long are services?

Worship services last about an hour.

How often do you celebrate Holy Communion?

Holy Communion is offered weekly at each Sunday service.

Who is allowed to receive communion?

All baptized Christians are invited to receive Holy Communion at Lutheran Church of the Master. We commune all ages with younger children beginning after a time of instruction and with the agreement of pastor, parent and child.

I know people who do not drink wine or have a gluten problem. What about them?

We offer an option of wine or grape juice as well as gluten free wafers for those who so choose.

We have a loved one with diminished hearing. What services do you provide?

We have a number of hearing assist devices available. Ask an usher if you need one and they will be glad to help you.

You say serving all, but you don’t really mean all do you?

Actually we do. We invite all people who desire to grow in their faith relationship with Jesus to be a part of the mission and ministry at LCM. We have a long history of being a place of welcome in our community and we seek to continue to reach out in the name of Jesus.

I have a question for the pastor what should I do?

Call the church office at 248-643-0176 or email Pastor Walters at paulewalters@gmail.com and he will be glad to respond.

Is the church accessible?

The church building is fully accessible. The restrooms near the church office are nearly constructed and fully accessible. There are also changing tables for infants in both the women’s and men’s rooms.

Special Services: Baptisms and Weddings

BAPTISM At Lutheran Church of the Master you do not have to be a member for you or your child to be baptized. Simply contact the pastor to arrange a time to talk and make plans. There is no charge for baptism.

Do you only baptize babies?

People of all ages are baptized, however in the Lutheran tradition we understand Baptism to be a once in a lifetime event so if you were baptized as an infant there is no need to be baptized a second time.

How do I schedule a baptism?

Contact the pastor to make arrangements. Start by calling the church office at: 248-643-0176.

WEDDINGS LCM is available to members and non-members. You can find our Wedding Policy here.

How do I schedule a wedding at your church?

To schedule, contact the pastor concerning availability at 248-643-0176.

How many people does the church hold?

The sanctuary can accommodate as many as 300 people for a wedding service.

Is pre-marital counseling required?

A couple is expected to meet with the pastor 2-3 times prior to the service. These meetings are for counseling as well as planning the wedding service itself.

Is the church available for same sex weddings?

In short yes. Following the lead of the ELCA, Lutheran Church of the Master understands this ministry to be part of the all we refer to when we say we serve “all in Jesus’ name.” This is in line with current ELCA practice as noted in the 1995 affirmation of welcome to gay and lesbian people, “to participate fully in the life of the congregations” (CA95.06.50) as well as the social statement on sexuality, which “call[s] upon congregations and members of this church to welcome, care for, and support same-gender couples and their families and advocate for their legal protection.” (Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust, p.19).

Is the pastor available for weddings outside the church?

The pastor is available at their discretion for off-site weddings. Distance and timing will impact availability.

What is a Lutheran?

Lutheran Church of the Master is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and part of the Southeast Michigan Synod.

As part of the ELCA we hold many things in common. The ELCA confesses the Triune God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. In our preaching and teaching, the ELCA trusts the Gospel as the power of God for the salvation of all who believe.

ELCA teaching or theology serves the proclamation and ministry of this faith. It does not have an answer for all questions, not even all religious questions. Teaching or theology prepares members to be witnesses in speech and in action of God’s rich mercy in Jesus Christ.

You can learn more about the basic teachings of the ELCA on their website: http://www.elca.org/Faith/ELCA-Teaching.
